On Monday 12th July 2010 about 80 guests attended the official opening of Burnby Hall Gardens Visitor Centre. The Chairman of the Stewart's Burnby Hall Gardens Trust, Richard Haines, welcomed everyone to the gardens and thanked the architect of the building and the builders, Moor Lane Builders for producing a building which was on time and to budget despite the harsh winter conditions. He said the new centre had three main purposes: 1. to provide a better working environment for staff. 2. To create a better facility for the 50,000 annual visitors and 3. To promote tourism and local trade. Special thanks were given to Yorkshire Forward for their substantial financial support. Andy Tordoff from Yorkshire Forward said it was so pleasing to see the scheme come to fruiition and hoped it would attract people from Yorkshire, other parts of the country and international visitors. Lord Halifax then performed the opening ceremony by unveiling a plaque to mark the occasion.
