Burnby Hall Gardens’ annual Tulip Festival is a very popular annual event and provides a colourful and vibrant beginning to our new season. This year’s festival is being held from Saturday 23rd April to Saturday 7th May and promises to be the most spectacular yet.
The Gardens are seven times consecutive winners of the prestigious Yorkshire in Bloom Gold Award, and a great deal of care and attention is given to ensuring that the bulbs are planted to create some lovely displays, with the underplanting of the tulips being developed in several locations.
This year, there is a cascade of colours throughout the Gardens, featuring over 15000 tulips, with 130 varieties on display, which can be seen formally displayed in tubs throughout the Gardens and in the main flower beds across the site. Wallflowers have been underplanted to provide extra colour and fragrance.
This year’s tulip display has been planned by Jill Ward, Head Gardener, on behalf of the Stewarts Trust, and is the culmination of months of planning by herself, the Estate Manager, and the gardening team at Burnby Hall Gardens.
