World War I Discovery Day
Wednesday 8th August 11am – 4pm
Assemble the troops and join us for a World War I Discovery Day to mark the 100-year centenary. Find out more about Major Percy Stewart and the stories of others from the western front. The day will include:
- Sergeant Horace Smith is looking for recruits! Learn what life was like on the western front and take part in a military drill! Each session lasts 30 minutes at: 11.30am, 2.00pm and 3.00pm
- Western Front themed crafts in the bandstand.
- A talk by Peter Rogers ‘A tale of two Percy’s’. Discover the story and experiences of his grandfather Percy Rogers and Major Percy Stewart. At 11.00am and 2.30pm
- Target goal practise to remember the famous 1917 female football squad the Dick Kerr Ladies Club as well as the 1914 Christmas Truce.
- As well as all this you can also enjoy a World War I themed trail around the Gardens.
